A new timber floating museum and wetland competence centre for Museum i Akershus.
Fetsund Lenser and Nordre Øyeren naturreservat are sites of historic and ecologial significance. Fetsund Lenser is the site of the worlds’ only intact timber sorting facility, and Nordre Øyeren naturreservat is an important resting place for birds migrating to the North of Norway.
Inspired by the nature reserve and the timber sorting facility, the scheme proposes a family of interlinked pavilions and raised walkways which take the visitor on a journey through the trees and out to the river’s edge.
The large oval dock with a pattern of randomly arrange timber logs, references the historic timber booms which were once a common site along the river. It provides a generous arrival platform and an exciting outdoor space for teaching and events.
