Kråkerøy Chapel is a series of new fixed furnishings and liturgical objects designed for the restored interior of the existing chapel.
Pale timber is used throughout to establish a common material language between the different elements. In the adjoining room, built-in cabinetry forms a new lining fitted closely around the existing window, walls and curved ceiling, integrating storage and supporting functions within the geometry of the chapel.
Within the main chapel, the altar, lectern, font and cross are conceived as a related family of objects. Simple planes and sections of timber are assembled to give each element its own character while maintaining a clear relationship across the ensemble.
The detailing concentrates on the meeting of surfaces, edges and materials. Exposed end grain reveals the construction of the cross, while pale timber is combined with brass and stone elsewhere, creating a quiet relationship with the existing interior.
