The existing barn has been transformed to support the changing agricultural production of the farm, continuing a history of building and rebuilding with timber from the surrounding forest.

The barn is constructed from timber harvested from the farm's woodland, together with material reused from an earlier barn that occupied the site. For the current transformation, individual trees were selectively felled from the surrounding forest rather than clear-cutting an area of woodland. They were sawn at a neighbouring sawmill and dried on the farm before being incorporated into the new construction.

A new working farmyard has been established behind the barn, occupying a previously underused area between an existing pond and an open manure storage basin. The new yard accommodates the greater spatial demands of modern grain production while concentrating agricultural activity away from the garden and farmhouse. A large new opening connects the barn directly with the yard, formed by a new glulam structure and an 8 × 8 metre sliding polycarbonate door clad in red-painted timber slats.

Within the barn, the existing structure has been retained and adapted wherever possible. Lowering the floor required new footings beneath the original timber columns. Existing concrete structures, originally used for manure handling during dairy production, have been repurposed to form a fire-resistant room for the new oil-fired boiler that provides heat for the grain dryer.
