Repslagerveien is the adaptation and extension of an existing house and its outbuildings, creating an accessible home with a close relationship to its established, richly planted garden.
The proposal reuses and extends the existing outbuildings to accommodate a new bedroom, bathroom and laundry room, allowing the principal functions of the home to be accessed on a single level. A gently sloping connection from the garage into the new extension provides step-free access, enabling the elderly couple to continue living in their home as their needs change.
A low, glazed garden room connects the main house with the adapted outbuildings, bringing the buildings together around a garden courtyard. Large folding doors allow the room to open almost entirely towards the garden, transforming a space of circulation into a place for sitting, dining and gathering. Planting is brought close to the glazed facade, creating an immediate relationship between the interior and the changing seasons.
The new structure is designed to sit quietly alongside the existing white-painted buildings, while its timber-lined interior establishes a warmer, more intimate atmosphere. A dark polished concrete floor and a direct connection to the garden reinforce the room's character as a space between inside and outside.
Within the adapted outbuilding, the bedroom offers a more enclosed counterpoint to the openness of the garden room. A sloping ceiling, deep timber-framed windows and integrated furnishings establish a calm interior, with carefully positioned openings framing views of the garden.
Together, the interventions give the existing buildings new purpose while allowing the garden to become a more integral part of everyday life.
