The summer annex is a lightweight, freestanding timber pavilion providing additional bedrooms and a bathroom for a growing, multi-generational family at their shared farmstead.
The building is carefully positioned around an exposed outcrop of bedrock and an existing oak tree, which divides the linear structure into two wings. Facing the existing house and garden, the annex forms a new edge to the farmyard. Along this side, the bedrooms are accessed from a raised, covered walkway, where deep overhanging eaves extend the circulation into an informal outdoor space closely connected to the exposed rock below.
The individual bedrooms look in the opposite direction, away from the shared courtyard, with large windows framing views into the forest beyond. Modest in scale and material expression, each room is conceived as a quiet retreat from the shared life of the farmstead.
At the pivot around the oak tree, a small bathroom and outdoor shower sit between the two wings, bringing this more intimate part of the building into close contact with the landscape.
